Torpedo ladle

Configuration:

Refractories used for torpedo ladle should be characterized by excellent slag resistance, thermal shock resistance and spalling resistance, because of which suffers various erosion. Hitech Material provides a comprehensive solution for hot metal pretreatment.

  Along with the development of metallurgical industry, put forward the higher request to the hot metal. In order to reduce converters load and meet the demand of converters steelmaking, hot metal is required with the lower content of sulfur, silicon and phosphorus. This requires to carry out hot metal pretreatment in pig iron ladle, iron runner and torpedo car.

  Pig iron ladle used for desiliconization, dephosphorization and desulphurization is generally torpedo-shaped, this is why it is also called torpedo ladle or torpedo car.

  In addition to be influenced by oxidation, erosion and corrosion, torpedo ladle faces severely eroded by metallurgical auxiliary materials used for pretreatment. The factors above leads to the rapid damage of torpedo ladle refractory linings.

  1. Torpedo ladle with non desulfurization

  Lining: fireclay bricks, high alumina bricks;

  Slag line: Al-Si carbide bricks, high alumina bricks;

  Receiving iron mouth: high alumina bricks;

  Impact zone: high quality Al-Si carbide bricks;

  Severely damaged part: andalusite cabon bricks;

  Top which is prone to be oxidized influenced: fired Al₂O₃-SiO₂ bricks.

  2. Torpedo ladle which is used for pretreatment

  Lining: Al-Si carbide bricks;

  Desulphurization: magnesia carbon bricks, magnesia dolomite carbon bricks;

  Desiliconization and dephosphorization: magnesia carbon bricks;

  Refractories should be selected according to the actual situation.

  3. Stirring lance

  Stirring lance is always in the condition for temperature sharply instantaneous change, which leads to high requirements for its thermal shock resistance in that case.

  Corundum mullite castables are commonly used in this part.

  However, with the improvement of requirements for corrosion resistance, carbon containing castables begin to be used for. Besides, Al-Si carbide gunning mixes are used to maintain the life of torpedo ladle, and achieved good results.
