Converters

Configuration:

Top-bottom combined blowing technology can abbreviate steelmaking time, enhance quality of liquid steel and reduces the cost of steelmaking, but lining erosion is accelerated. Hitech Material provides clients with a complete refractory solution for combined blowing converters.

At present, top-bottom combined blowing technology has become the main converter steelmaking process, for which can abbreviate steelmaking time, enhance quality of liquid steel and reduces the cost of steelmaking.

In the meantime, lining erosion is accelerated. In this connection, Hitech Material provides clients with high-quality converters refractories and a complete solution for combined blowing converters.

Selection and application of refractories for converters

Refractory linings are mainly built by Magnesia carbon bricks for converters:

  1. Furnace crown

Furnace crown is mainly affected by erosion-corrosion, slag corrosion and mechanical damage, that it is better to use magnesia carbon bricks with high-strength and high resistance to oxidation in this area.

  2. Trunnion

As corrosion by vessel slag, erosion and oxidation, as well as mechanical stress affect, which makes it difficult to be repaired if trunnion is damaged. Accordingly, magnesia carbon bricks with high corrosion resistance become the best choice.

  3. Slag line

Magnesia carbon bricks with high corrosion resistance can be used in slag line, considering which is mainly suffered by slag action.

  4. Charging side of converters

In addition to erosion by liquid steel and vessel slag, charging side of converters is also affected by impact effect and erosion-corrosion when hot metal and scrap steels are loaded, and which is very serious.

Consequently, magnesia carbon bricks used in this area should have the characteristics of high corrosion resistance and good thermal shock resistance.

  5. Tap hole

This area is mainly influenced by oxidation, slag corrosion, abrupt change of temperature and liquid steel erosion, so magnesia carbon bricks with high strength and high resistance to oxidation are the most suitable refractories.
