Electric arc furnace zones

 

  1. Bottom

 

  (1) DC EAF bottom

 

  The bottom electrode life of DC EAF affects directly the service life of EAF refractories, so selection and application of EAF bottom electrode refractories is extremely crucial.

 

  Bottom electrode sleeve bricks: Magnesia carbon bricks for EAF, Magnesia bricks, Magnesia chrome bricks, MgO- Al₂O₃& MgO- Cr₂O₃- Al₂O₃ precast blocks;

 

  Conductive ramming mixes: MgO-Fe, MgO-C, MgO-CaO-C;

 

  Hot gunning mass: MgO-CaO-C, MgO-C, MgO-Fe.

 

  (2) AC-EAF bottom

 

  Bottom: Magnesia bricks, MgO-based & MgO-CaO ramming mass;

 

  Slag line: Magnesia bricks;

 

  Porous plug: MgO-based & MgO-C.

 

  2. Tap hole

 

  Tapping spout can be built of bricks, ramming on site or casting into precast blocks. Based on the practical effect, refractories containing carbon are well suited for tap hole because of longer service life.

 

  Magnesia carbon bricks are generally used as tube bricks in eccentric bottom tapping hole.

 

  Tapping spout: Magnesia bricks, Magnesia carbon bricks, Al₂O₃-SiC-C bricks, Chrome corundum precast blocks, Al-Si Carbide ramming mass;

 

  Tap hole: MgO-based well blocks & tube bricks, high quality magnesia carbon bricks, Al₂O₃-SiC-C.

 

  3. Wall

 

  EAF wall, especially slag line and hot spot, is mainly built by high quality magnesia carbon bricks;

 

  EAF gunning mixes are mainly MgO-based & MgO-C materials;

 

  Magnesia bricks for EAF can be used for permanent layer.

 

  4. Roof

 

  Along with the steady development of refractory materials, high alumina precast blocks become preferred refractory products.

 

  Trigone of electrode: Corundum, Chrome corundum and Corundum magnesia series of castables and precast blocks;

 

  Trigone periphery: Magnesia chrome and High alumina series of ramming mass;

 

  Outside trigone: Magnesia chrome bricks, High alumina bricks and Magnesia bricks.
